About The Old Hay Barn
Within its original sandstone walls are stored many memories – ‘good harvest’, ‘bad harvest’; laughter, joy, sadness, tears and many secrets and thoughts…
It still stands as originally built all those 300 years ago.
From being stocked floor to rafters with hay, firstly loose hay brought in by horse and cart to small mechanically bailed hay, filling the barn to bursting point. Then … along came new technology, enormous round bales and huge new tractors. The heritage barn doors and old oak floors groaned with their size and weight and the tractor trying to turn and twist in the space.
The old hay barn was becoming redundant; it’s solid doors rarely opened, save for the odd big bale or junk! It silently stood delete half- empty. Not even sounds of the cows being milked in the Shippon below as this, too, had given way to a modern era and now sited in the big new cow shed. Times were changing and diversification had to bring about renewed energy and purpose for this beautiful old barn. (put ‘this beautiful old barn’ in bold or something special to denote its emphasis.

What works well is an intimate ceremony in The Old Hay Barn / farm yard overlooking the far-reaching views of the seven shires, followed by drinks in the Shippon or in the Farm Yard on the picnic area followed by either a smaller wedding breakfast where you can choose to park your hired food vans. These can be either in the farm yard or to the rear adjacent to our Horse Shoe Barn. Wigwams and marquees can be sited to optimise and enjoy the tranquil scenery and views. Finally, for the Bride & Groom to kick off their dancing shoes and reflect on their happy and memorable day as the night closes in rounded off with a stay in the cosy Bunk House
